How can YOU be a part of ensuring local Veterans have access to healthcare?
1) Give Up a Cup
- If 100 people Give Up a bunj size Cup monthly, DESERVE will be able to extend service into the
counties surrounding Trinka Davis: Douglas, Haralson, & Heard!
- 3000 cups at $5.00 will provide fuel and insurance for one wheelchair accessible van for one year
2) Attend the DESERVE Gala to kick off Give Up Cup
- Silent & Live auction featuring a coffee bar, fabulous pasteries, and live music. Nov. 10 at The Depot on Bradley.
3) Join the Team!
- For two weeks (from the Gala through Veterans Day, Nov. 11) reach out to your friends,
church groups, book clubs, etc. and ask them to "Give up a Cup." How many cups can you raise?
Impact West GA
Bill Vayda was DESERVE’s very first veteran. He served in the United States Navy. DESERVE had the privilege of serving Mr. Vayda and his wife before his passing on June 30, 2012 even before the Trinka Davis VA Clinic opened.
“ I can’t tell you how blessed we were to have this help during Bill’s illness. The driver was so kind and friendly. I just couldn’t handle Bill by myself. Thank you so much for providing this wonderful service to our community.”
-Mary Nell Vayda
In the last year of his life, Bill was completely immobile. Mary Nell, his wife, wasn't physically capable of lifting him in and out of his chair. When she called for assistance, the wheel-chair accessible taxi was going to cost them $500!
“Deserve is truly a blessing. To know I had someone to take me meant I could keep all my appointments and I could recover faster.”
Every fall, in honor of Veterans Day, Nov. 11, we ask community members to commit to "Give up a Cup" every month or just once and donate the money they would have spent on that coffee, tea, Diet Coke, etc. to DESERVE.
Each year, Give up a Cup funds insurance, fuel, and maintenance for the wheelchair accessible van.
This year, our goal is to raise enough funds to purchase, insure, maintain, and fuel a second wheelchair accessible van so that we may extend DESERVE into all of Douglas, Haralson, and Heard counties. Our ultimate goal is for all 20,000 Veterans in west GA to have access to their healthcare at Trinka Davis.
